Frienily, we held on, we believed, we held the vision, we persisted. We have a President-Elect and a Vice-President Elect who are (relatively) sane, believe in science, and actually want to help people live better lives. Cue happy dance music and get yer groove on.
But the hard work isn’t over by a long shot. This country is steeped in corruption. We’re still in a battle for the Senate, and this one is going to take everything we have to win. We can’t allow Moscow Mitch to ruin another Democratic presidency. Turtle man needs to go down. If you have any money to spare, send some to Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock.
And now the real work can finally begin – the work of creating anti-racist, anti-sexist, anti-homo- and transphobic legislation to end discrimination. Decriminalizing drugs that are less harmful than alcohol would be a favorite. Making America safe again for people of color would be fantastic. Clean air and water, no drilling for oil in our national parks, stop letting people shoot whatever endangered animal they want . . . I could go on and on here. The orange imbecile destroyed so many good, positive government agencies and offices that getting this stuff going again . . . I can’t even imagine.
I don’t envy the new administration the sheer volume of work that it must do to stop a pandemic from utterly destroying a country with the highest unemployment rate in its history suffering the aftermath of multiple natural disasters from coast to coast. We’re wrecked, and we’re hurting, but right now, I feel like at least I can breathe again, and I can get up and march on.
